On this page you will find an overview of our entire year's curriculum. I don't typically follow the same order each year. Please note that our work will be streamlined through Google Classroom. Please email me if you need help accessing Google Classroom. Here is what we are working on:

Unit 12 - Documentary Analysis
Students will be watching a documentary, The Biggest Little Farm, and analyzing it through discussion questions. The discussion questions will be posted in class.

Unit 11 - Media Awareness
For this unit, students will develop their critical thinking skills by learning about propaganda and its uses in the media through commercials.

Unit 10 - Non-fiction writing
For this unit, students will be working on several short non-fiction written assignments to practice their writing skills.

Unit 9 - Slam poetry
In collaboration with the the Spoken Word Café, students will be learning about spoken word poetry and the mechanics behind it. The unit will culminate with students creating their own poems and sharing them.

Unit 8 - Screenplay
We will be learning about screenplays, when they are used, and how to write one. Students will be tasked with writing their own screenplays, which they will then be partnering up and sharing with the class in the style of a 'table read'.

Unit 7 - Class Novel (Iqbal by Francesco D'Adamo)
We are reading this novel together as a class. You will find a pdf of the novel as well as a work package on this site. Please note that some of our in class activities may vary slightly from work in the package.

Unit 6 - PEEL Paragraph Writing
In this short, week long unit, students will learn how to write effective paragraphs. Use the PowerPoint to learn about PEEL paragraphs. Then read the article and fill out the organizer. Finally, write your PEEL paragraph on lined paper.

Unit 5 - Life Skills
In this short unit before Christmas holidays, students will learn how to write an email, draft a resume, and write a cover letter. They will also be practicing speaking skills in a mock job interview.

Unit 4 - Short story (writing)
Using our understanding of short story elements, students are expected to write a short story that is at least 2 pages in length. Find the planning booklet below.

We learned about different short story elements in our lesson and read several different stories to fill out the short story elements organizer.
